A devastating gas explosion has shaken Nairobi, Kenya, resulting in a grim toll of two fatalities and 167 injuries. The incident unfolded at a gas plant situated in the southeast part of Nairobi, causing widespread destruction.

Videos circulating online depict a fierce fire near residential blocks in the Embakasi region. The outbreak occurred just before midnight on Thursday while numerous gas cylinders were being refilled. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, adding to the distressing nature of the incident.

Emergency services and firefighters swiftly responded to the catastrophe at the Kentainers Company Ltd, situated in the affected area, as confirmed by government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura. He reported severe damage to the building hosting the company and urged the public to steer clear of the vicinity due to ongoing rescue operations, including the deployment of fire engines. Unfortunately, the local authorities anticipate a further rise in the death toll.

Witnesses described feeling tremors immediately following the explosion. The Kenya Red Cross, through social media, reported dedicated efforts by rescue crews to combat the flames. Currently, 29 individuals have been transported to hospitals for treatment. The fire has spread across multiple apartment complexes, raising concerns about a potential escalation in casualties.
