Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels have recently unveiled video evidence capturing armed individuals descending from a helicopter to commandeer a cargo vessel in the southern Red Sea.
This compelling footage, disseminated by the Houthi movement’s television network Al Masirah, emerged just one day following the hijacking incident orchestrated by the Iran-backed group.
In a statement, the rebels asserted that the seized vessel, identified as the Galaxy Leader, had affiliations with Israel.
However, Israeli authorities promptly refuted these claims, clarifying that the ship in question was not of Israeli origin.
Concurrently, a spokesperson from the Japanese government affirmed that the vessel was under the operational purview of Nippon Yusen.
As geopolitical tensions escalate in the region, this incident raises profound security concerns, prompting a closer examination of the intricate web of affiliations and potential ramifications tied to maritime activities in the strategic waters of the southern Red Sea.
