In a significant diplomatic move, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is set to travel to Saudi Arabia to participate in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit.

The summit, scheduled for November 11, aims to address the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, its humanitarian implications, and the broader issue of Gaza-Palestine.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry, in response to the escalating situation in Gaza, announced the decision to hold a “Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit” on November 11, 2023.

The move came after consultations between Saudi Arabia, the League of the Arab States, and the OIC. Notably, the decision was influenced by proposals from various Islamic nations, including Iran, reflecting a collective effort to address the pressing concerns arising from the conflict.

Earlier discussions between Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, held during the 16th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, focused on the Gaza crisis.

Both leaders emphasized the necessity for practical decisions to resolve the ongoing conflict, with a specific call for an immediate halt to the Israeli bombardment of Gaza.

Raisi underscored the importance of addressing the Palestine issue, highlighting it as a paramount concern for Iran, Turkey, and the broader Islamic world.

The upcoming OIC summit in Riyadh is expected to delve into comprehensive discussions on the Gaza crisis, exploring potential resolutions and strategies to alleviate the humanitarian situation.
