India Extends Support and Assistance After Devastating Nepal Earthquake

In the wake of a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 that struck Nepal, resulting in the tragic loss of more than 150 lives, India has swiftly offered its assistance and established an emergency contact number for Indians in need. Here are the key developments following this seismic event:

Immediate Support for Indians in Distress

Following the earthquake, India took prompt action to provide support to its citizens affected by the disaster. An emergency contact number was released for Indians requiring urgent assistance. The contact number, +977-9851316807, was shared on social media by India in Nepal to facilitate the outreach of those in need.

Jajarkot District: The Epicenter of the Earthquake

The earthquake’s epicenter was reported in Jajarkot district, where it claimed the lives of 92 people and left 55 others injured. Additionally, the quake caused significant damage in the neighboring Rukum district, resulting in the collapse of numerous houses and leaving at least 36 people dead. Another 85 injured individuals were rushed to the local hospital for medical care.

Swift Response in Nepalgunj

In the city of Nepalgunj, a regional hospital made more than 100 hospital beds available and had teams of doctors on standby to assist the injured. The response efforts have been critical in providing essential medical care and support to those affected by the earthquake.

Survivor’s Testimony

Survivors recounted the terrifying experience of the earthquake, which struck while many people were asleep in their homes. Bimal Kumar Karki, one of the survivors, described how the violent shaking caused his house to collapse, burying him partially under debris. He and his neighbors faced a harrowing situation, screaming for help until rescuers reached them.

India’s Solidarity and Assistance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sadness over the loss of lives and damage caused by the earthquake in Nepal. India quickly extended its support and solidarity to the people of Nepal, emphasizing its readiness to provide all possible assistance.

Earthquakes in Nepal

It is important to note that earthquakes are a common occurrence in the mountainous terrain of Nepal. The country has experienced devastating earthquakes in the past, with a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in 2015 claiming the lives of approximately 9,000 people and causing extensive damage to around 1 million structures.
