In a bizarre turn of events during a New Year’s Eve celebration on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, a 21-year-old Brazilian man, Mateus Facio, was oblivious to the fact that he had a bullet lodged in his head after initially dismissing it as a harmless stone impact. The startling revelation came four days later when he finally sought medical attention, uncovering a potentially life-threatening situation.
Facio recounted the incident, stating, “Little did I know that all this would happen. I thought it was a stone, a bad joke, that someone picked up and threw a rock.” Despite the impact causing his head to bleed, he continued to revel with friends for days without realizing the severity of his condition.
It wasn’t until Facio’s journey back home that he experienced abnormal movement in his arms and fingers, prompting him to seek medical help. “I went to take a nap and woke up with my arm feeling a little silly,” he recalled. Subsequent tests at the hospital revealed a shocking truth: a 9mm bullet was lodged in his head, compressing a critical area near the region responsible for the movement of his right arm.
Doctors explained that the bullet had induced convulsive episodes due to irritation, making Facio incredibly fortunate to have avoided more serious damage, such as paralysis. The young man underwent a risky two-hour surgery to remove the bullet, facing potential complications like bleeding, cerebral fluid leakage, meningitis, and even death. Fortunately, the operation was a success, and the bullet was sent to the local authorities in Cabo Frio for investigation.
This astonishing incident serves as a stark reminder of the unexpected dangers that can lurk in seemingly harmless situations, prompting a closer examination of safety measures during festive celebrations.
