The tragic event unfolded around 3:00 pm (0800 GMT) near Sala Khao township, situated in central Suphan Buri province. Authorities, including the police, are still in the process of verifying the official death toll.

“We do not see more damage toward other houses or people who live in the (nearby) community,” stated Police Colonel Theerapoj Rawangban, highlighting that the impact was localized.

The cause of the explosion remains unclear, and authorities are actively investigating the incident. Images shared by the local rescue service depict metal debris scattered on the ground and a substantial plume of black smoke, illustrating the severity of the blast.

Thailand has unfortunately witnessed similar incidents in the past, with explosions occurring in workshops producing firecrackers and pyrotechnics. Last year, a fireworks warehouse explosion in Sungai Kolok town, southern Narathiwat province, claimed ten lives and left over 100 individuals injured.
