Unbelievable Air Travel Experiences: Flying Solo in Economy Class and VIP Treatment on Empty Flights

Embarking on a vacation on December 25, 2023, Zoe Doyle, 25, and her 59-year-old mother, Kimmy Chedel, were in for a remarkable surprise during their Emirates flight from the Seychelles to Switzerland. In an unexpected turn of events, the mother-daughter duo discovered that they were the sole occupants of the economy-class cabin, a revelation that left them astounded. Documenting their unique experience on TikTok, the video garnered over a million views, with Zoe captioning it, “Merry Christmas from the only ladies flying Emirates today.”

In the viral video set to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” Ms. Chedel is seen playfully donning Emirates cabin staff headgear, while her daughter dances down the clean corridors and creates “snow angels” on the aircraft floor.

Their revelation about being the only passengers came as a complete surprise to the duo, who had initially believed there were a few others on board. Ms. Doyle shared, “We had no idea we were the only ones. There were four others, I think, that were in first class, but they were totally separate from us, so we were basically the only ones.”

Explaining the unusual circumstance, she added, “Because it was monsoon season in the Seychelles, as well as being Christmas Day, it just meant no one was flying I guess.” Despite being the exclusive passengers, the pair, unfortunately, couldn’t enjoy the perks of first class, a minor setback that did not dampen their spirits.

The Emirates staff went above and beyond to ensure the duo had a memorable journey. Ms. Doyle shared, “It was so much fun. We were chatting with the flight attendants and filming funny videos with them. They even got a Polaroid camera out and dressed my Mum up in the cabin crew uniform. It was great.”

This rare occurrence is not the only instance of a solo flight experience. In April 2023, a UK man named Mr. Wilkinson discovered he was the sole passenger on a flight from Northern Ireland to Portugal to meet his family. Initially inquiring about a potential delay or cancellation, he was pleasantly surprised to learn that he was considered a “VIP guest” and would have the entire plane to himself.

Mr. Wilkinson enjoyed a personalized experience, choosing his own seat and having a conversation with the captain before takeoff. Describing the experience akin to that of a private jet, he expressed his gratitude for the flight attendants’ exceptional service and even jokingly requested a refund for his solo seat.
