In a recent viral video, senior Congress leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has stirred up a political storm by claiming that Sonia Gandhi is backing him for the Chief Ministerial position in the upcoming Telangana Assembly Election 2023. The controversial statement made during a poll rally in Nalgonda has ignited speculation, although the grand old party is yet to officially announce its candidate for the coveted role.

The five-second clip captures Reddy confidently stating, “Sonia Gandhi is going to entrust the CM position to me if the party secures victory. There is no one more senior than me here.” This unexpected declaration has added a layer of intrigue to the unfolding political narrative in Telangana.

Despite the assertion from Reddy, the Congress party has not unveiled any names for the Chief Minister’s post, keeping the political landscape uncertain leading up to the polls. Several potential candidates within the party have expressed their aspirations for the top position, setting the stage for a dynamic and competitive electoral atmosphere.

Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, a prominent figure in Telangana politics, has been a Member of Parliament for Bhuvanagiri since 2019 and has played a pivotal role as the star campaigner for the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee since 2022. With a political background that includes serving as the Deputy Floor Leader of the Telangana Congress Legislative Party and being a former MLA of the Nalgonda Assembly constituency, Reddy’s claim adds an intriguing dimension to the unfolding electoral drama.

As Telangana gears up for the polls on November 30, the state anticipates a triangular contest among the BJP, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and the Congress. The BRS, previously known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), secured a significant victory in the 2018 assembly elections, winning 88 out of 119 seats and capturing 47.4 percent of the total vote share.
