WhatsApp Introduces YouTube-Inspired Video Playback Controls for Enhanced Viewing Experience

Published on

WhatsApp is in the process of implementing an innovative feature that brings YouTube-style video playback buttons to its platform, offering users a more convenient and customizable viewing experience. This development stems from user feedback, with many individuals on the Meta-owned app expressing the need for a more user-friendly video navigation system.

Initially discovered by WABetaInfo, these new video playback controls empower users to effortlessly rewind and fast-forward videos by 10-second intervals. The design of these buttons bears a striking resemblance to YouTube’s implementation, adding a touch of familiarity to the feature.

As of now, this enhancement is exclusively available on the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.24.6, granting beta testers the advantage of simplified video navigation. These intuitive controls eliminate the need to painstakingly manipulate the progress bar, enabling users to swiftly reach the desired segments of a video.

Although presently restricted to beta testers, there is potential for WhatsApp to extend this feature to a wider audience in the near future. However, the exact timeline for its universal availability remains uncertain.

In addition to these video playback controls, WhatsApp is also diligently developing a ‘Privacy-Focused Alternate Profile’ feature. This feature will allow users to safeguard their personal information, such as profile photos, and adopt a different name and image for contacts who are not part of their inner circle.

Over the past few months, WhatsApp has been committed to enhancing its user experience by introducing a range of novel features. These include a fresh approach to sharing voice notes and stickers, support for multiple accounts on a single device, and the introduction of a ‘Protect IP Address’ feature for calls.
