Published on

If you’re over 20, you likely remember the days of LimeWire and searching for “YouTube MP3 converter” to enjoy your favorite tunes, especially if you didn’t reside in Europe or America. Fast forward to the present, and platforms like Spotify and Apple Music have revolutionized our music consumption habits. These apps, known for their affordable pricing and user-friendly interfaces, have become the new norm, and it appears they’re here to stay. In fact, Spotify recently reported a profitable third quarter, even with a price increase. Let’s dive into the details.

Spotify’s Impressive Q3 Report:

Spotify has just released its third-quarter report for 2023, and it’s filled with positive developments. Notably, the company reported a profit, marking a significant improvement compared to the previous year when they faced losses. During this quarter, the number of monthly active users surged by 26% year-over-year, reaching an impressive 574 million, surpassing their guidance by 2 million users.

Paid Subscribers on the Rise:

Crucially for the platform, the number of paid subscribers also saw a substantial 16% year-over-year growth, reaching 226 million. It’s worth noting that Spotify recently made certain features exclusive to Premium subscribers, a move that has clearly influenced user choices.

Strong Revenue Growth:

Spotify’s Q3 2023 report also highlights an 11% year-over-year increase in total revenue, reaching a remarkable €3.4 billion, surpassing expectations. These positive developments solidify Spotify’s position in the music streaming industry.

The Quest for Lossless Streaming:

One aspect where Spotify is yet to meet the expectations of its user base is its commitment to providing a lossless streaming tier. Audiophiles have eagerly awaited Spotify’s lossless audio offering, rumored to be named the “Supremium” tier, priced at $19.99 per month and including additional features. While it’s yet to materialize, Spotify’s current success suggests it’s poised to continue shaping the music streaming landscape for the foreseeable future.
