Instagram’s New Feature Testing: Empowering Friends to Contribute to Your Posts

Published on

Instagram, the popular photo and video sharing platform under Meta’s umbrella, is venturing into uncharted territory with a fresh feature that could revolutionize the way users interact. During a recent platform broadcast, Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, unveiled an exciting new capability: the ability for users to collaborate on posts by allowing their friends to add photos and videos.

This game-changing feature introduces an “Add to post” button, neatly positioned in the lower left corner of any given post. It empowers users to incorporate additional multimedia elements, enriching the post’s content and storytelling. However, the core control over the post remains firmly in the hands of the original user who initiated the post.

As Adam Mosseri explained in a Threads post, this new feature offers a dynamic twist to carousel posts. Users can opt to enable the submission of photos and videos by their followers before making the actual post. Submissions can be reviewed and, if desired, added to the post. This innovative approach fosters collaboration and creativity within the Instagram community.

A visual glimpse of this feature in action reveals the “Add to post” button, prominently situated in the bottom left corner of a carousel post. Friends of the user can interact with this button, contributing their own unique perspectives to the post. Alternatively, it appears that users can also engage with this feature by swiping to the last slide of the carousel, where a more prominent “Add to post” prompt invites them to enhance the post with additional photos or videos.

Currently, an Instagram carousel post can comprise up to 10 photos or videos. With the introduction of this feature, speculation arises that the platform may consider expanding this limit to further encourage creativity and storytelling. However, it’s important to note that the company has not officially confirmed any such changes at this time.

In parallel to this exciting development, Instagram is toying with the concept of enabling users to use short or looping videos as their profile pictures in Notes. Although details about these potential features are limited at present, it’s evident that Instagram is actively exploring ways to boost user engagement and creativity within its vibrant community.

As Instagram continues to test and refine these features, users can anticipate a more collaborative and dynamic experience on the platform, empowering them to tell richer stories and engage with their audience in innovative ways.
