Google is set to unveil its latest Pixel phone at the annual Made by Google event, scheduled for Wednesday. The event, which promises some surprises, will be broadcast on October 4 at 7:30 PM IST on Google’s YouTube channel. While the star of the show will be the Pixel 8, here’s what to anticipate from Google at this eagerly awaited hardware event.
How to Watch the Made By Google Event
The Made By Google event is slated for October 4, 2023, starting at 7:30 PM IST. While Google is hosting an in-person audience, you can catch the live stream on Google’s website, YouTube channel, or the company’s social media handles.
Pixel 8 Pro
The Pixel 8 Pro, the larger of the two siblings, is expected to follow its tried-and-true formula – more cameras (including a thermometer sensor) and a larger display, though this time it might have a flat screen. While the external design may appear similar to last year’s model, there are expected changes on the inside, particularly a newer camera sensor that promises brighter pictures. The Pixel 8 series will feature 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensors, capable of capturing 35% more light, making it ideal for low-light conditions. The Pixel 8 Pro may also include a 64MP ultra-wide sensor and a newer Time of Flight (ToF) sensor for improved focusing. The Pixel 8, on the other hand, will retain a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera but with a wider field of view. The telephoto and selfie cameras will remain unchanged, and there’s even a mysterious thermometer on the Pro model.
Pixel 8
Despite being the smaller sibling, the Pixel 8 will share many hardware features with its larger counterpart, with the notable exception of a telephoto camera.
Tensor G3 Chip
The new Pixel 8 series will feature Google’s third-generation in-house chipset, the Tensor G3. This new chip is expected to offer improvements in power efficiency and an upgraded neural engine for new AI features.
New AI Features for Google Pixel Phones
Google Pixel phones are renowned for their AI capabilities, especially in photography. This year, Google plans to introduce new AI-powered features to the Pixel 8 series, including features like “Best Take” and “Audio Eraser,” in addition to the existing AI enhancements.
Android 14
Google will roll out the Android 14 update to all eligible Pixel phones, introducing new features such as a more vibrant “Material You” design, enhanced accessibility settings, and more.
Pixel Watch 2
The Pixel Watch 2 will be equipped with the Snapdragon W5 Series chip, offering improved efficiency compared to its predecessor. It will feature a slightly larger battery (306mAh) and a 1.2-inch circular OLED screen with a resolution of 384×384 pixels sourced from Samsung Display. Running on Android 13-powered Wear OS 4, the watch will offer dynamic theming, seamless updates, and ultra-wideband (UWB) capabilities.
