Apple’s 2024 iPad Lineup Overhaul: New 12.9-Inch iPad Air and More

Published on

In a bold move for 2024, Apple is set to revolutionize its entire iPad lineup, including the introduction of a larger 12.9-inch iPad Air alongside the 10.9-inch model, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, a prominent analyst from TF International Securities. Kuo’s latest predictions anticipate a comprehensive update to Apple’s existing iPad models, starting with a refreshed 10.9-inch version and an entirely new 12.9-inch iPad Air equipped with cutting-edge chips. Mass production for these anticipated models is expected to kick off in the first quarter of 2024.

The 12.9-inch iPad Air is positioned as a groundbreaking addition to Apple’s portfolio. While it won’t feature the mini-LED technology found in the current iPad Pro models, it will boast an LCD screen with the same oxide backplane, promising superior display performance. Kuo, in a Medium post on Sunday, highlighted the significance of the Oxide backplane, stating it provides enhanced display performance compared to the 10.9-inch iPad Air, which utilizes an a-Si backplane.

Key upgrades in the 2024 iPad lineup, as predicted by Kuo, include the adoption of the M3 processor and the integration of OLED displays. These advancements are poised to elevate the overall performance and visual experience of Apple’s iPads.

Kuo’s forecast for total iPad shipments in 2024 ranges between 52-54 million units, signaling a marginal increase from the estimated 50 million units shipped in the current year. However, this projection falls short of the 63 million peak observed during the pandemic in 2022.

Looking further ahead, Kuo anticipates that the two new OLED iPad Pros, set to replace the mini-LED models, will commence mass production in late 2024. These upgraded iPad Pros are expected to feature an M3 processor and come with improved form factor designs. Despite their anticipated high-quality features, Kuo suggests that shipment momentum for the OLED iPad Pros might be slightly subdued, potentially influenced by their higher price point and competition from the 12.9-inch iPad Air.
