Rajkot: Speculation is rife about Virat Kohli’s return to the Indian squad for the crucial fifth Test against England at Dharamshala. A BCCI official, speaking anonymously to PTI, hinted at the possibility of Kohli making a comeback after his break due to personal commitments. Initially granted permission to skip the first two Tests, Kohli was anticipated to rejoin the team for the third Test, which did not materialize. However, there is optimism that he might make a comeback for the final Test.

As the premier batter of the side, Kohli’s potential return holds significant importance, especially after witnessing the middle-order struggles in the first two Tests. His presence in the final Test would undoubtedly provide a massive boost to the Indian side.

In related news, KL Rahul has been ruled out of the third Test in Rajkot, commencing on February 15, as he is yet to regain full fitness. Devdutt Padikkal, Rahul’s Karnataka teammate, has been named as his replacement, marking Padikkal’s maiden call-up for Tests. With the absence of Virat Kohli and now KL Rahul, India faces challenges in the batting department.

The BCCI decision to drop Shreyas Iyer for the final three Tests further intensifies the middle-order concerns, leaving Shubman Gill as the only experienced batter. Rajat Patidar showcased solidity during the second Test, while the debutant for Rajkot is expected to be one among Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, or Devdutt Padikkal.

Indian Squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul*, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (WK), KS Bharat (WK), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja*, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep
