Composition of the Pace Arsenal

Leading the pace brigade is the seasoned Jasprit Bumrah, making a return after missing the last season. Uncapped talents Akash Madhwal and Arjun Tendulkar add local flair, while international recruits Romario Shepherd, Gerald Coetzee, Dilshan Madushanka, and Nuwan Thushara promise overseas strength. Skipper Hardik Pandya, known for his explosive performances, is set to play a pivotal role.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Dominance

Jasprit Bumrah has been a force to reckon with in the IPL, securing all of his impressive 145 wickets for MI at an average of 23.30 and an economy rate of 7.39. His prowess is evident in the crucial phases of the game, with 80 wickets in the last five overs at 20.17. Bumrah’s consistency extends to 28 and 37 wickets in the powerplay and middle overs (7-15), showcasing his all-round effectiveness. With a remarkable T20 career tally of 260 wickets at 21.36, Bumrah remains a key asset.

Hardik Pandya’s Versatility

Hardik Pandya, the dynamic all-rounder, brings versatility to MI’s pace attack. While his overall IPL record boasts 53 wickets at 33.26, his impactful contributions for MI tally up to 42 wickets at 31.26. Notably, he excels in the powerplay and death overs, claiming 27 and 21 wickets, respectively. Though his middle-over impact is modest, Hardik’s overall T20 record of 152 wickets at 28.34 emphasizes his value as a wicket-taking option.

Uncapped Pacers: Madhwal and Tendulkar

Last season saw the debut of uncapped pacers Akash Madhwal and Arjun Tendulkar. Madhwal’s stellar performance yielded 14 wickets at an impressive average of 15.64, including a memorable fifer. In contrast, Tendulkar struggled, managing only three scalps at 30.66. Madhwal’s knack for taking wickets in the death and middle overs showcased his potential. As promising prospects, Madhwal and Tendulkar bring a mix of experience and potential to MI’s lineup.

Overseas Firepower

The international recruits bolster MI’s pace resources. Romario Shepherd, with three IPL scalps, boasts 117 T20 wickets at 23.24. South African Coetzee, an uncapped IPL player, possesses 60 T20 wickets at an impressive average of 19.05. Sri Lankan Madushanka, with 31 wickets at 29.83, and Thushara, known for his Malinga-esque action, bring their own unique strengths, amassing 115 wickets at 18.22.
