In a much-anticipated move, FIFA unveiled the schedule for the 2026 World Cup on Monday, bringing the excitement of the beautiful game to North America. The MetLife Stadium in New York will serve as the epicenter of this grand event, with the tournament set to kick off at Mexico’s iconic Azteca Stadium on June 11.

Co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, the 2026 FIFA World Cup promises to be the most inclusive and impactful tournament in history, featuring 48 teams playing a total of 104 matches across 16 state-of-the-art stadiums in three countries.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The most inclusive and impactful FIFA World Cup ever is no longer a dream but a reality that will take shape in the form of 104 matches in 16 state-of-the-art stadiums across Canada, Mexico, and the USA.”

The road to the final will pass through cities rich in soccer history, with Atlanta and Dallas chosen to host the semifinals, while the third-place game will unfold in the vibrant city of Miami. A pivotal moment in the tournament, these matches are sure to showcase the pinnacle of skill and determination from the world’s top footballing nations.

The quarter-final clashes are set to captivate audiences in Los Angeles, Kansas City, Miami, and Boston, adding to the thrill of this global spectacle. A total of 16 cities across the three host countries will play a role in the World Cup, with the majority of matches being held in the United States, underlining the nation’s enthusiasm for the sport.

MetLife Stadium, with its impressive 82,500-seat capacity, will play host to the final in East Rutherford, New Jersey, just across the Hudson River from New York. Home to the NFL’s New York Giants and New York Jets, MetLife Stadium has a storied history of hosting international football events, including the final of the 2016 Copa America tournament.

The decisions were unveiled in a star-studded live television broadcast in North America, featuring FIFA President Gianni Infantino alongside notable personalities such as comedian and actor Kevin Hart, rapper Drake, and celebrity Kim Kardashian.

The selection of host cities was a result of careful consideration, acknowledging each city’s experience in hosting major international events and its status as a global hub with convenient transportation connections for fans.
