His remarkable story took a dramatic turn during the second Test in Brisbane against Australia, where Joseph faced a daunting injury but emerged as the hero in West Indies’ historic Test win on Australian soil.

In a gripping encounter, Joseph retired hurt after a toe injury caused by a fierce yorker from Mitchell Starc. Despite the setback, he displayed resilience and determination, returning to the field for the fourth innings. Miraculously, scans revealed no fractures, and Joseph took the pink ball in hand to lead West Indies’ bowling attack.

With sheer grit and determination, Joseph claimed a stunning 7/68 in just 11.5 overs, dismantling Australia for 207 and securing West Indies’ first Test victory on Australian soil in 27 years.

In a post-match interview, Joseph confessed he almost skipped the game but credited the team doctor for a mysterious remedy that enabled him to contribute significantly to the historic win.

Born on August 31, 1999, in Baracara, Guyana, Joseph’s cricketing journey began in humble circumstances. Idolizing legends like Ambrose and Walsh, he worked as a security guard in Berbice in 2021, using melted bottles and fruits as makeshift cricket balls due to financial constraints. His breakthrough came through Romario Shephered, a fellow Guyanese and now his neighbor.

Making his first-class debut for Guyana in February 2023, Joseph showcased his talent in various matches, earning a List-A debut in the 2023-24 Super50 Cup. A brief stint with the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League followed in 2023.

The pinnacle of Joseph’s career came in December 2023 when he earned his maiden Test call-up for the series against Australia.

Making an instant impact, he claimed a wicket on his very first ball, joining an elite group of West Indies cricketers.
