Rishabh Pant’s Remarkable Comeback Journey: Triumph Over Tragedy

Published on

Rishabh Pant, the dynamic wicketkeeper-batter and skipper of the Delhi Capitals, is gearing up for a spectacular return to the cricket field in the upcoming 17th edition of the India Premier League (IPL). This eagerly awaited comeback follows a harrowing road accident that left Pant with severe injuries in December 2022, keeping him out of action for an extended period.

In a recent interview on the Star Sports series ‘Believe,’ Pant shared the chilling details of the near-death experience he encountered on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. “First time in my life, I felt like my time in this world is up. During the accident, I was aware of the wounds, but I was lucky as it could have been even more serious. I was feeling that someone saved me,” Pant revealed.

Despite the daunting prognosis given by the doctor—predicting a recovery time of 16-18 months—Pant has demonstrated incredible determination to expedite his return to the cricket pitch. “I asked the doctor how long will it take for me to recover, he said it would take 16-18 months. I knew I had to work hard to cut this recovery time,” Pant added.

The cricketing community eagerly awaits Pant’s return, with fans hoping for stellar performances in the upcoming IPL season. However, former India pacer Zaheer Khan has raised questions about Pant’s potential inclusion in the T20 World Cup 2024, even if he excels in the IPL.

Reflecting on Pant’s challenging journey, Zaheer stated, “If you see Rishabh Pant’s journey, the turn he has gone through is not easy for any player. Firstly, everyone who is attached to cricket will be happy once he comes back on the field. He has a lot of hurdles to cross.”

Zaheer emphasized the difficulties Pant might face in readjusting to the competitive cricketing environment. “Firstly, he has to come back and play. It’s not easy at this level. You need to get used to it and get the rhythm back. Those things might take time. It’s great if it doesn’t. However, keeping all things in mind, even if he has a very good IPL, I don’t think the team will be thinking in that direction,” Zaheer concluded.
