Real Madrid Look to Extend Winning Streak as They Face Sevilla in La Liga Showdown

Published on

Real Madrid is set to continue their impressive run as they return to La Liga action, aiming for their fifth consecutive victory, with a challenging trip to Sevilla on Saturday evening.

Los Blancos are currently leading the La Liga table, having secured 24 points from their first nine matches of the 2023-24 season. On the other hand, Sevilla finds themselves in the 14th position, with just eight points from an equal number of games this season.

Sevilla will showcase a new face in their dugout, with Diego Alonso taking the reins as the new head coach, signing a contract that runs until the end of the current campaign.

Alonso has stepped in to replace Jose Luis Mendilibar, who was relieved of his managerial duties earlier this month, despite guiding the team to Europa League success in the previous season.

The current La Liga season has seen Sevilla make an underwhelming start, only accumulating eight points from their first eight matches, which has left them in the 14th spot. However, they remain unbeaten in their Champions League group, securing draws in their initial two games against Lens and PSV Eindhoven.

In their most recent La Liga fixture before the international break, Sevilla played out a 2-2 draw with Rayo Vallecano, with Youssef En-Nesyri netting an equalizer in the 96th minute at Estadio Ramon.

Sevilla now faces back-to-back crucial home matches against Real Madrid and Arsenal in the league and Champions League, respectively.

Real Madrid, based on the current league standings, has been the standout team in La Liga this season. They have won eight of their nine matches, securing 24 points, which puts them at the top of the table. They are two points ahead of Girona in second place and three points ahead of Barcelona in third.

After a disappointing 3-1 loss to Atletico Madrid on September 24, Carlo Ancelotti’s side has responded with four consecutive victories, three of which have come in La Liga. In their last three league matches against Las Palmas, Girona, and Osasuna, Real Madrid has scored nine goals and conceded none. They also secured a 3-2 win against Napoli in the Champions League earlier in the month, putting them on six points in Group C.

Jude Bellingham has been a standout performer for the team this season, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 10 appearances across all competitions. He will be eager to add to his eight goals and two assists in La Liga this season.

Real Madrid is not looking past their upcoming clash with Sevilla, as they prepare to face Braga in the Champions League next week and El Clasico against Barcelona on October 28.

For now, their focus is on extending their La Liga winning streak against Sevilla.
