Raiza Dhillon Secures 18th Paris 2024 Quota for India with Women’s Skeet Silver

In a stellar performance at the Asia Olympic Qualification for Shotgun, young shooter Raiza Dhillon clinched a silver medal, securing India’s 18th quota for the Paris 2024 Games in the women’s skeet event. Dhillon, 19, demonstrated exceptional skill, leading the six-women final until the halfway mark.

The intense competition saw Dhillon in a head-to-head battle with China’s Jinmei Gao, who eventually secured the gold medal with 56 hits in the 60-shot final. Despite missing a few targets in the latter part of the final, Dhillon finished strong with 52 hits, ensuring a Paris Games quota for India.

Dhillon’s compatriot, Maheshwari Chauhan, showcased her shooting prowess, settling for the bronze with 43 hits. Ganemat Sekhon, the other Indian shooter in the final, secured the fourth position with 30 hits.

Dhillon’s remarkable start, hitting six out of six targets, positioned her at the top of the table. She maintained her lead with 14 hits, staying two points ahead of Gao. However, as the final progressed, Dhillon faced challenges, missing crucial targets that allowed Gao to take the lead.

In a gripping competition, Dhillon and Chauhan fought for the silver medal, with Dhillon ultimately emerging victorious and Chauhan securing the bronze. The gold medal contest saw Dhillon missing twice at the start, and Gao’s three-point lead sealed the victory in her favor.

In the qualification round, Sekhon secured the second position with a total score of 117, while Chauhan claimed the third spot with 115, winning a shoot-off against Qatar’s Al Sharshani Reem.

Dhillon qualified for the final in the sixth position, completing the top six lineup. The impressive performance by Raiza Dhillon not only earned her a silver medal but also added another quota for India on the road to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
