The Czech player faced off against Briton Jack Draper in a captivating encounter that concluded with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory for Lehecka.

Having reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open last year, Lehecka demonstrated his mettle in a challenging two-hour battle against the 22-year-old Draper. Draper claimed the opening set with a single service break, but Lehecka responded strongly, leveling the match with a well-fought second set.

The momentum shifted in Lehecka’s favor as he surged to a 3-0 lead in the decider, dealing a blow to Draper’s hopes of securing his maiden tour title. Despite Draper’s tenacity and three break points at 3-1, Lehecka held firm, saving them all and ultimately sealing the title with an unreturnable serve.

An emotional Lehecka expressed his joy after the trophy presentation, stating, “It’s hard for me to say anything because I’m so emotional after winning my first title in Adelaide, I’m so excited. Such an amazing way to start the year.”

As the 32nd seed, Lehecka will enter the Australian Open with newfound confidence, facing Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the first round. This victory propels him to a career-high ranking of 23 in the world, making him the first Czech player to claim an ATP title since Jiri Vesely in Pune in 2020.

The triumph sets the stage for an exciting start to Lehecka’s Melbourne journey, while Draper, who lost to Rafa Nadal in his only previous Australian Open match last year, will face American Marcos Giron in the upcoming tournament.
