Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah, has once again been entrusted with the prestigious role of President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), marking his third consecutive term. The announcement was made during the ACC’s annual general meeting in Bali, where Shah’s extension proposal by Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva received unanimous support from all ACC members.
Shah, who initially assumed the role in January 2021, has been a pivotal figure in steering the ACC towards cricketing excellence. The ACC, under his leadership, successfully organized the Asia Cup in T20 format in 2022 and in ODI format in 2023, showcasing a commitment to promoting the sport across the continent.
Expressing gratitude for the continued trust bestowed upon him, Shah highlighted the ACC’s dedication to fostering cricket’s all-round development, particularly in regions where the sport is still in its infancy. In a released statement, Shah emphasized, “We must remain committed to ensuring the all-round development of the sport with a special focus on regions where it is still in its infancy. The ACC is committed to nurturing cricket across Asia.”
Shammi Silva acknowledged Shah’s instrumental role in unearthing and promoting new talent in cricketing powerhouses like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Pankaj Khimji, Chairman of Oman Cricket and Vice-President of the ACC, praised Shah for the transformative impact on the perception of ACC-conducted tournaments, emphasizing their value and contribution to the growth of the game in the region.
Hassan, the outgoing President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, extended his congratulations, affirming that cricket in Asia will continue to prosper under Shah’s leadership. He underscored the importance of collaboration with the ACC to further enhance the cricketing endeavors in the region.
As Jay Shah embarks on his third term as the ACC President, his vision and commitment promise to be a driving force behind the ongoing success and development of cricket in Asia. The unanimous support for his reappointment signifies the faith and confidence the ACC Board has in his ability to lead the organization towards a brighter cricketing future for the continent.
