On-field Altercation In the 81st over of England’s second innings, Bumrah obstructed Pope’s attempt to run, leading to an inappropriate physical encounter. The frustration was palpable as Bumrah interfered with Pope, ultimately earning him the ICC’s disciplinary action.

ICC’s Response The ICC released a statement, citing Bumrah’s violation of Article 2.12 of the Code of Conduct, which pertains to ‘inappropriate contact’ with players. Bumrah acknowledged his mistake, and ICC match referee Richie Richardson’s proposed sanction was accepted without the need for further hearings.

Demerit Points and Consequences This incident marked Bumrah’s first demerit point in 24 months. Typically, Level 1 breaches result in reprimands, a maximum penalty of 50% match fees, and one or two demerit points. Accumulating four or more demerit points in 24 months can lead to suspension points, potentially resulting in bans from Test matches.
