BCCI Unveils Squad for Upcoming England Tests, Kohli Absent Again

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the squad for the remaining three Tests against England, witnessing the return of experienced players Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul. However, the participation of these players is contingent on approval from the BCCI medical team.

Notably, Virat Kohli remains unavailable due to personal reasons, and Shreyas Iyer has been excluded from the squad. The uncapped pacer Akash Deep has earned a call-up.

Kohli’s Continued Absence: Virat Kohli’s unavailability continues due to undisclosed personal reasons. In a statement released by BCCI, Kohli expressed the necessity of his undivided attention to certain personal situations. Kohli’s absence was felt in the recent defeat against England in Hyderabad, adding to concerns after missing the opening T20I against Afghanistan last month.

Return of Jadeja and Rahul: The return of Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul provides a significant boost to the Indian squad. Both players had missed the initial Tests due to injury concerns—Jadeja with a hamstring injury, and Rahul with right quadriceps pain. Their participation is conditional on receiving clearance from the medical team.

Bumrah’s Presence and Iyer’s Omission: Star bowler Jasprit Bumrah, the hero of India’s victory in Vizag, will feature in the third Test despite earlier reports of being rested. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer, who struggled to find form in the ongoing series and experienced back spasms after the second Test, has been dropped without a specific reason provided by the BCCI.

Backing New Talent: The selection committee has shown confidence in Rajat Patidar, who made his debut in Vizag, and Sarfaraz Khan, who retains his spot in the squad. Pacer Akash Deep from Bengal has been included as a back-up seamer. Mohammed Siraj, rested in Vizag, might make a return to the playing XI.
