John Kirby from the White House National Security Council emphasized the continuous strengthening of strategic ties between the US and India while addressing concerns over the US Justice Department’s indictment of an Indian in an alleged assassination plot.
During a press briefing, Kirby highlighted the significance of the strategic partnership with India, affirming ongoing efforts to enhance the relationship.
Acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations and investigation regarding the foiled plot involving an Indian national, Kirby stressed the gravity of the situation. He commended India’s commitment to investigating the matter.
Expressing the US’s stance, Kirby emphasized the importance of holding those responsible for the alleged crimes accountable. The US Justice Department revealed details of the indictment against an Indian national involved in a thwarted assassination plot targeting a US-based leader of the Sikh Separatist Movement and a New York citizen.
According to the indictment, an Indian government employee (referred to as CC-1) recruited Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national, to hire a hitman for the assassination plot, overseen by CC-1 from India.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed concern over the case, indicating it contradicts government policies. The MEA spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, highlighted the seriousness of the matter and the formation of a high-level committee to address such international issues.
