Must read

The Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express, known for its efficient and comfortable travel experience, faced an unexpected hurdle during its journey in Odisha. A sudden thunderstorm accompanied by hailstorm caused damage to the train, disrupting its services temporarily. In this blog post, we will delve into the incident and its impact on the passengers and operations of the Vande Bharat Express.

Amidst a Norwester accompanied by hailstorm, the Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express encountered damage to its windscreen and some compartments. The incident took place in close proximity to Bhadrak railway station, approximately 30 km away. Officials confirmed that the main engine’s windscreen and select glass windows were cracked due to the impact.

Further investigations revealed that the train was struck by lightning during the thunderstorm, exacerbating the damage. Additionally, an uprooted tree resulted in the overhead electric wire being damaged, causing the train to come to a halt near the Baitarani Road railway overbridge. Passengers on board, numbering around 250, were reported to be safe throughout the incident.

Railway authorities swiftly responded to the situation by arranging a diesel engine to clear the train from the site. The pantograph, entangled with the damaged overhead wire, required careful handling. Once the train is cleared up to Manjuri Road, it will resume its journey using its normal engine, eventually reaching its destination, Howrah, after 7.30 pm.

Some passengers on the train shared their concerns on social media regarding the lack of electricity in the coaches during the unexpected halt. Railway authorities assured them that necessary arrangements would be made to restore the power supply and ensure their comfort until the train resumes its operation.

The Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express, often referred to as Odisha’s first semi-high-speed train, has gained significant popularity since its launch. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself flagged off the train, considering it a symbol of India’s progress. With plans to extend its services to all states by the following month, the Vande Bharat Express is poised to revolutionize train travel in the country.
