The funeral ceremony of the late Subrata Roy, the esteemed founder of Sahara Group, took place on a poignant Thursday evening in Bhaisakund, Lucknow. Marked by heartfelt goodbyes from close friends, dedicated staff, and notable celebrities including Sonu Nigam and Boney Kapoor, the event was a testament to Roy’s impactful life.

Roy’s 16-year-old grandson took on the solemn responsibility of performing the last rites, embodying a touching generational connection. However, the absence of Roy’s sons, Sushanto and Seemanto, who were abroad during the ceremony, added a bittersweet note to the proceedings.
The funeral procession, commencing from Sahara Shahar in Gomti Nagar at 4:30 pm, saw a gathering of mourners bidding adieu to the “man with the golden heart.” Sonu Nigam, expressing his deep connection with Roy, traveled from Dubai to attend the ceremony, emphasizing Roy’s fatherly role in his life since 1997.
Subrata Roy, a prominent figure in retail, real estate, and finance, passed away at the age of 75 due to cardiorespiratory arrest in a Mumbai hospital. His body was flown in from Mumbai and laid to rest at Sahara Shahar, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.
Prominent figures paying their respects included Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Congress leader Aradhana Mishra Mona, and others. The expressions of grief extended beyond political affiliations, with former MP Naresh Agarwal, UP minister Nitin Agarwal, and Smita Thackeray also honoring Roy’s legacy.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Akhilesh Yadav conveyed their condolences, recognizing Roy’s significant contributions. CM Yogi Adityanath expressed sadness over Roy’s demise, while Akhilesh Yadav remembered him not only as a successful businessman but as a compassionate individual with a generous heart.
