Spiritual Guru ‘Amma’ Bangaru Adigalar Passes Away, Leaving a Legacy of Reform and Service

Renowned spiritual guru and Padma Shree Awardee, Bangaru Adigalar, affectionately known as ‘Amma,’ has passed away at the age of 82 in his residence in Chennai. His demise is attributed to declining health.

Adigalar’s Legacy of Reform Bangaru Adigalar was celebrated for his trailblazing efforts in bringing about revolutionary reforms. One of his notable achievements was breaking down barriers to allow women access to the sanctum sanctorum of Shakti temples. This landmark change marked a significant step towards gender equality in religious practices. Adigalar also founded the Adhiparasakthi Siddhar Peedam in Melmaruvathur, where he continued to inspire countless devotees.

Recognition with Padma Shri In 2019, the Government of India recognized his extraordinary contributions to humanity by conferring upon him the prestigious Padma Shri award. This honor reflected his dedication to service and reform in the realm of spirituality.

Farewell and Last Respects Following the news of his passing, a large number of people gathered at Adigalar’s residence in the Chengalpattu district to pay their final respects to the spiritual leader.

Tributes from Officials The governor of Telangana and the lieutenant governor of Puducherry, Tamilisai Soundararajan, expressed their condolences at the loss of Bangaru Adigalar.

They acknowledged his commendable contribution to the education sector, particularly his pioneering efforts to allow women into the sanctum sanctorum of the Arulmigu Aadhiparasakthi Temple in Melmaruvathur for performing rituals. His passing is mourned as a significant loss to the world of spiritualism.

Legacy Continues Bangaru Adigalar is survived by his wife and two sons, who oversee various educational institutions, including a medical college established by the family. While the spiritual leader’s physical presence may be no more, his legacy of reform, service, and dedication to gender equality in religious practices lives on in the hearts and minds of those he inspired.
