Mukesh Ambani, the prominent chairman of Reliance Industries, found himself confronted with yet another sinister threat this week. In a disturbing email received by Mr. Ambani, a malefactor demanded a staggering sum of ₹20 crore, menacingly warning of dire consequences if the demand went unmet.
The sender, who identified as Shadab Khan, claimed to have access to India’s finest marksmen, heightening the gravity of the threat. The ominous communication, dated October 27, was brought to the attention of law enforcement after vigilant security personnel at Mr. Ambani’s opulent Mumbai residence, Antilia, discovered its contents.
Taking this threat seriously, the Gamdevi Police in Mumbai promptly initiated legal action against the anonymous sender, invoking sections 387 and 506 (2) of the Indian Penal Code, marking the commencement of a thorough investigation into the matter.
This disconcerting incident is not an isolated one in the life of Mukesh Ambani, as he has been subjected to previous threats of similar nature. In the preceding year, Mumbai Police arrested an individual from Bihar for issuing anonymous threats to Mr. Ambani and his family members. These threats included ominous mentions of “blowing up” the HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, along with the Ambani family’s lavish abode, ‘Antilia,’ situated in South Mumbai.
The year 2021 also saw a troubling incident where an explosives-laden SUV was discovered in close proximity to Mr. Ambani’s residence in South Mumbai. The owner of the SUV, businessman Hiran, was tragically found dead in a creek in neighboring Thane on March 5 of that year.
Mukesh Ambani’s life seems to be perpetually shadowed by security concerns, exemplifying the need for constant vigilance and robust protective measures in his daily existence.
