Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has praised Bihar’s caste census, emphasizing the importance of knowing the caste statistics of the country. He highlighted that the greater the population, the greater the rights people should have.
This comes after the Bihar government released caste survey data showing that Other Backward Caste (OBC) and Extremely Backward Class (EBC) together account for 63% of the state’s population.
Gandhi noted the disparity in representation among OBCs in the Central Government and their share of the budget, emphasizing the need for accurate caste statistics in India.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also commended the caste-based enumeration work, stating that the survey not only revealed castes but also provided information about the economic condition of individuals.
The data released in Bihar’s caste-based survey indicated the population percentages of various caste groups and communities in the state, shedding light on the demographic landscape of Bihar. The total population of Bihar is more than 13 crore.
