Pet Travel Woes: Bengaluru Man’s Unpleasant Journey with Akasa Air Sparks Controversy

Published on

A recent incident shared on LinkedIn by Akasa Air passenger Lakshay Pathak sheds light on the challenges faced during his pet travel from Ahmedabad to Bengaluru on a January 26 flight. Despite paying Rs. 5000 for his Shih Tzu, Pathak’s expectations of a smooth journey were shattered by unexpected delays and issues.

The flight, initially scheduled for a 10:20 p.m. departure, was delayed by over three hours, finally taking off at 1:40 a.m. Pathak and his family endured over six hours at the airport, aggravated by ill-equipped ground staff and CISF personnel unable to handle pet-related concerns.

Pathak’s distress continued, highlighting the disparity between the depicted image of pet travel in communication and the actual scenario at the airport. Despite the significant delay, airport staff prohibited the pet from leaving the container, and there were no facilities for pets to relieve themselves.

During the flight, Pathak described the flight crew as untrained and unprofessional. Allegedly, the crew failed to understand the pet’s needs, creating a stressful atmosphere for both passenger and pet. The absence of a designated seat for pets and delays in boarding further added to the discomfort.

Pathak’s social media post gained attention as he tagged Animal Welfare Society India and PETA, seeking accountability and remedial action against Akasa Air’s services for pets. In response, Akasa Air expressed regret and promised to follow up with Pathak.
