Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy recently shared intriguing insights in an interview, shedding light on his romantic escapades during the early days of his marriage with Sudha Murty. Recalling an incident where he embarked on an 11-hour train journey without a ticket just to accompany his wife, Murthy humorously remarked, “The hormones would be kicking in… you know how it is.”

In the midst of promoting their biography, ‘An Uncommon Love: The Early Life of Sudha and Narayana Murthy,’ penned by Indian-origin writer Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, the 77-year-old tech titan delved into the dynamics of enduring marriages. Murthy emphasized the importance of keeping the relationship exciting, especially during the middle years when raising children becomes a shared endeavor.

However, the revelations didn’t stop at matters of the heart. Murthy candidly admitted to a past mistake of keeping Sudha Murty out of Infosys, acknowledging her qualifications surpassed not only his but those of the other six founders. Reflecting on his earlier decision, he confessed to being “wrongly idealistic” and adhering to a belief that family members should not be involved in corporate affairs.

“I felt that good corporate governance means not getting family into it. Because those days children used to come in and run the company… there used to be a violation of a lot of laws,” Murthy explained in a CNBC-TV18 interview. However, he later revised his stance, citing discussions with philosophy professors who emphasized that as long as a family member has merit and follows the standard procedures, preventing their participation would be unjust.
