Security forces have made a significant discovery in Manipur’s Imphal East district, where a substantial cache of arms and ammunition was seized during search operations. The operation took place in the Shantipur, Khamenlok, and Wakan areas under the jurisdiction of the Sagolmang police station.
According to a police statement, the seized weaponry includes 36 firearms, among them three AK-47/56 rifles, four carbine machine guns, seven Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), and a substantial amount of ammunition and explosives, comprising 1,615 rounds and 82 hand grenades. The security forces also recovered 132 war-like stores, including bulletproof jackets and walkie-talkie sets.
The recovered items, which include the highly potent AK-47/56 rifles and carbine machine guns, have been turned over to the Sagolmang police station for further legal proceedings.
In a separate statement, the police also confirmed that, during the past 24 hours, the situation in the state has been under control. Chief Minister N Biren Singh, speaking at the 132nd Raising Day of Manipur Police, emphasized the importance of uniformed personnel working to prevent crimes and protect property, irrespective of ethnic backgrounds. He further announced that no First Information Report (FIR) would be filed against individuals who voluntarily surrender their arms.
