Kerala Serial Blasts: Accused Learned Bomb-Making Online, Spent Just ₹3,000, Reveals Investigation

Published on

In a startling revelation, the main suspect behind the serial blasts during a prayer meeting in Kerala has disclosed that he learned bomb-making from the internet. Dominic Martin, a 48-year-old with expertise in electronics, admitted to spending a mere ₹3,000 to create the explosives used in the devastating attack. As authorities delve deeper into the case, they uncover a trail of online knowledge acquisition and low-grade explosives.

Dominic Martin, the prime suspect in the Kerala serial blasts, has confessed to acquiring knowledge about bomb-making from the internet. His ability to assemble explosive devices was honed while working in the Gulf as an electronics foreman. Upon his return to India, he put this knowledge to sinister use.

Initial investigations suggest that the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) used in the attack were crafted from low-grade explosives commonly found in firecrackers. Astonishingly, Martin assembled these IEDs in the confines of his own home. This low-cost approach raises concerns about the ease with which individuals can access dangerous knowledge and materials.

Before surrendering to authorities, Martin posted a video message on a social media platform, shedding light on his motivations. He claimed that the teachings of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the religious organization hosting the prayer meeting, were “seditious.” He accused the community of instilling wrong values, even in children, and alleged that his warnings had fallen on deaf ears. Believing that this community posed a threat to the nation, he took it upon himself to engineer the serial blasts.

The consequences of Martin’s actions were devastating. The series of blasts at a convention centre in Kalamassery near Kochi claimed the lives of two women and a 12-year-old girl, with 50 individuals sustaining injuries. Approximately 2,000 people were present at the Jehovah’s Witnesses convention. The blasts, occurring within minutes of the prayer meeting’s commencement, triggered chaos and a stampede, exacerbated by the presence of smoke.

In response to the gravity of the incident, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), known for its expertise in counter-terrorism operations, has been tasked with investigating the serial blasts. The case now lies in the hands of this specialized agency, aimed at uncovering the full scope of the plot and its underlying motivations.

Revelations surrounding the Kerala serial blasts underscore the need for vigilance in monitoring online content and the accessibility of potentially dangerous information. The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of radicalization and the importance of preemptive measures to counteract such acts of violence.
