In a significant development, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the newly constructed Urban Extension Road 2 (UER 2) is set to revolutionize travel in the Delhi-NCR region. The UER 2 is poised to drastically reduce travel time from Kundli, situated on the Delhi-Haryana border, to Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi, from a cumbersome two hours to a mere 20 minutes.

This eagerly anticipated expressway is on track to be opened to the public within the next two to three months, offering commuters a remarkable improvement in their daily travel experience.

Speaking during an interaction with the Indian community in Prague, Czech Republic, Minister Gadkari shared his enthusiasm, stating, “The (UER 2) will bring travel time to IGI T3 airport to 20 minutes (from Kundli border in Delhi) instead of two hours. We have made another tunnel road that passes under the airstrip to T3 of IGI airport.”

So, what exactly can travelers expect from this transformative project?

Key Features of UER 2:

  1. First Elevated Urban Expressway: UER 2 will proudly claim the title of being the country’s first elevated urban expressway, covering a substantial 29 kilometers. This eight-lane access control expressway is designed to alleviate traffic congestion between Delhi and Gurugram.
  2. Efficient Toll Collection: The project will feature automated toll collection on the Dwarka Expressway, enhancing the overall efficiency of the transportation system.
  3. Multi-Level Road Network: The road network of UER 2 comprises four levels, including tunnels, underpasses, grade roads, elevated roads, and flyovers. This diverse infrastructure will significantly enhance connectivity.
  4. Connectivity Benefits: UER 2 will notably improve connectivity for residents of Haryana and West Delhi with IGI Airport. It will intersect important roads and railway lines, making travel more convenient and efficient.

In summary, UER 2 represents a transformative leap in infrastructure development, promising to make the daily commute between Kundli and Delhi’s IGI Airport a breeze. With its imminent opening, commuters can look forward to a significantly reduced travel time and an overall enhancement in transportation in the Delhi-NCR region.
