An intense encounter recently unfolded between security forces and militants in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, as reported by the media. The clash transpired in the Alshipora area, marking another significant operation by security personnel in the region.
The Kashmir Zone Police promptly shared the development, stating, “Encounter has started at Alshipora area of Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.” The swift response of security forces underscores their unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in the volatile region.
During the encounter, two militants were successfully neutralized. They were identified as Morifat Maqbool and Jazim Farooq Abrar, both affiliated with the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Providing insights into the background of the militants, ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar revealed that Jazim Farooq Abrar had been involved in the heinous killing of Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma.
The tragic incident involving Sanjay Sharma occurred in February when he was brutally murdered just outside his residence in the Achan region of Pulwama. Sanjay Sharma, an ATM guard at J&K Bank, had never left his hometown, making his loss all the more devastating to the community.
In a significant development, last month, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted extensive search operations at seven different locations spanning three districts in south Kashmir. These operations were conducted as part of the ongoing investigation into the homicide of Sanjay Sharma, aiming to bring justice to the victim and his grieving family.
The successful operation against the LeT militants Morifat Maqbool and Jazim Farooq Abrar in Shopian is a testament to the relentless efforts of security forces to combat terrorism and maintain peace in Jammu and Kashmir. While these encounters are crucial in neutralizing threats, they also underscore the ongoing security challenges faced by the region.
