Cyclone Michaung made landfall in Andhra Pradesh near Bapatla, causing destruction and claiming 17 lives. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the storm has weakened into a deep depression, situated north-northwest of Bapatla and southeast of Khammam.
While the storm is expected to further weaken into a depression, its aftermath has left a trail of devastation, affecting states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Odisha. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and Tamil colleague Vishnu Vishal were among those rescued from the cyclone’s impact.
Despite the weakening, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh remain on alert, and residents along the Bay of Bengal coast are urged to stay vigilant. In Andhra Pradesh alone, 40 lakh people have been impacted, and over 1,000 have been evacuated as 25 villages face inundation.
Tamil Nadu, particularly Chennai, is grappling with floods, with waterlogged streets and challenging travel conditions. Chief Minister MK Stalin highlighted the positive impact of a Rs. 4,000 crore investment in stormwater drains, mitigating the effects of the exceptionally high rainfall.

As Cyclone Michaung moves northward, Odisha stays on alert, expecting increased rainfall intensity. The IMD predicts heavy rainfall in north-coastal Andhra Pradesh, with warnings issued in Telangana. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government seeks Rs. 5,060 crore interim relief from the Centre for infrastructure reconstruction.
The situation evolves, and authorities continue efforts to manage the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung.
