Amit Shah Defends J&K Bills in Parliament’s Winter Session

Union Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah, voiced support for the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2023 during the ongoing winter session of Parliament.

Speaking on the third day of the session, Shah emphasized that these bills aim to provide respectful rights to deprived communities. He underscored the importance of renaming such communities in J&K as Other Backward Class.

Details on Bills:

  1. Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023: This bill addresses reservation in jobs and admission to professional institutions for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other socially and educationally backward classes.
  2. Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill 2023: The bill seeks to increase the number of seats in the J&K Legislative Assembly from 83 to 90.
