Renowned actor and politician Vijayakanth has been honored with the posthumous award of Padma Bhushan for his remarkable contributions to the field of art, specifically in Tamil cinema. The late DMDK (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam) chief passed away on December 28, 2023, in a private hospital in Chennai. The announcement of the Padma Awards by the Indian government on January 25, ahead of Republic Day, brought joy to his fans, who consider it a well-deserved recognition.

Vijayakanth, a beloved figure in Tamil Nadu, had an illustrious career in the film industry, starring in 154 movies before transitioning to a career in politics.
