In exciting news for Pixel owners in India and various other regions, Google’s innovative call screening feature may soon be accessible in multiple languages. Recent details discovered by a vigilant Reddit user suggest that Google is planning to extend the availability of the call screening feature to more countries, including India.
The feature, designed to transcribe calls from unknown or spam numbers, is presently accessible in select countries and languages. However, Google is rumored to introduce support for over 10 additional languages and regions in the near future. The extent of the rollout, including access to the automatic call screening feature available in the US, remains uncertain at this time.
The discovery was made by Reddit user u/Yuval17G (via Android Police), who successfully activated the Google Pixel Call Screening feature on a rooted OnePlus 7 running a custom Android 14 version known as AOSPA (Paranoid Android).
The user also utilized a root-related module called GappsMod. By enabling the relevant call screening flags, they managed to download Hindi language packages and effectively deploy the feature on their smartphone.
Screenshots shared by the user indicate that Google has included English (India) and Hindi (India) as supported languages for the call screening feature. This discovery of previously unsupported languages hints at the possibility of Google introducing the feature on Pixel smartphones in India in the upcoming months. The user further notes that their friend successfully enabled the feature on a Redmi Note 8, although specific details were not provided.
The Reddit post also outlines a list of languages and regions where Pixel Call Screening is anticipated to become available soon. These include English (Singapore), French (Belgium and Switzerland), German (Belgium, Austria, Switzerland), Italian (Switzerland and Italy), Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish (US/EE.UU).
It’s important to highlight that while the user managed to activate the feature on a rooted smartphone and observed language availability, Google has not officially announced the expansion of call screening to other languages and regions.
Speculations suggest that the introduction of these enhancements may come in the form of a Pixel Feature Drop, with the next one expected in March. Further details are likely to be revealed in the coming weeks, providing Pixel users with an enhanced and more versatile call screening experience.
