The Qi2 Standard Unveiled

Qi2, pronounced ‘Chi Two,’ represents the next phase in wireless charging technology, succeeding the Qi wireless charging standard. Introduced by the WPC, it shares similarities with Apple’s MagSafe, utilizing a comparable coil for wireless charging and magnet systems. The Magnetic Power Profile, a new feature, ensures precise device positioning for optimal charging efficiency and speed. This groundbreaking standard is anticipated to be compatible with both iOS and Android devices, fostering a seamless charging ecosystem.

According to the WPC, the first Qi2 productions are nearing the completion of certification testing, signaling an imminent launch. Leading accessory brands such as Anker and Belkin are expected to unveil Qi2 charging technology products. Over 100 devices are currently undergoing Qi2 testing or awaiting certification, emphasizing the widespread adoption of this innovative standard.

Qi2 Wireless Charging Comes to iPhones and Google Pixel 9

The iPhone 15 series is set to be among the first smartphones to embrace Qi2 wireless charging, marking a significant leap in Apple’s charging capabilities. Notably, Qi2-compatible chargers and battery packs are in the pipeline for the iPhone 15 series. Additionally, the Google Pixel 9 series is anticipated to join the Qi2 revolution, positioning itself as one of the pioneering Android phones to adopt this cutting-edge wireless charging technology.

Key Features of Qi2 Standard

Qi2 brings forth a host of improvements, including enhanced safety features to prevent device damage and reduce battery life. Supporting 15W charging, the platform incorporates foreign object identification capabilities, ensuring a secure and efficient charging experience.

Notably, items adopting the new Qi v2.0 Extended Power Profile (EPP) without magnets will lack the Qi2 emblem, emphasizing the significance of magnets in this transformative charging standard.
