According to data from the Wikimedia Foundation, English Wikipedia logged over 84 billion views in 2023. The top five articles include ChatGPT, Deaths in 2023, 2023 Cricket World Cup, Indian Premier League, and the film Oppenheimer.

India, a cricket enthusiast’s hub, made a significant mark in the list. The 2023 Cricket World Cup, film ‘Jawan,’ 2023 Indian Premier League, and Shahrukh Khan’s blockbuster ‘Pathan’ secured spots in the top 10.

The foundation notes that cricket, a globally beloved sport, claimed a remarkable 16% of the top 25 articles. The 2023 Cricket World Cup, in particular, saw a 304% surge in interest compared to its previous edition, with over 1.25 million views on the day of the final.

Australia’s victory in the 2023 Cricket World Cup, especially Virat Kohli’s outstanding performance, garnered substantial attention, surpassing the 2019 Cricket World Cup’s Wikipedia pageviews.

In the cinematic realm, ‘Oppenheimer,’ ‘Pathaan,’ and ‘Jawan’ stood out as blockbuster releases. Shah Rukh Khan’s presence in these films contributed to their massive success, with each surpassing one million views in a single day on English Wikipedia around their release dates.

Wikipedia’s diverse list also features global figures like Taylor Swift, Matthew Perry, and Elon Musk, attesting to the platform’s role in chronicling the world’s ever-changing interests.
