Vir Das Triumphs with International Emmy Award for Comedy, While Jim Sarbh Faces Defeat to Martin Freeman

Renowned comedian Vir Das recently clinched the prestigious Comedy Award at the 2023 International Emmy Awards, securing a win for his Netflix special, “Vir Das: Landing.” However, the evening also witnessed disappointments for fellow nominees Jim Sarbh and Shefali Shah, who failed to secure the coveted awards in their respective categories.

Jim Sarbh, nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor category for his outstanding role in the web series “Rocket Boys,” faced defeat against English actor Martin Freeman. In response to the outcome, Sarbh shared his sentiments on Instagram stories, expressing, “No luck folks.”

Despite the setbacks, Vir Das took to his Instagram story to commend both Jim Sarbh and Shefali Shah. Shefali Shah, nominated for her exceptional performance in “Delhi Crime” Season 2, lost to Karla Souza. Vir Das praised their talents, stating, “Shefali Shah is a once-in-a-generation talent. Jim Sarbh is well on the same path. I could not have more respect for them, and it’s been a privilege to witness their craft and artistry these last few days.”

Vir Das proudly shared moments from the victory on his Instagram, showcasing pictures with the Emmy Award. He expressed gratitude, stating, “For India 🇮🇳 For Indian comedy. Every breath, every word. Thank you to the @iemmys for this incredible honor.”

Numerous celebrities flooded the comments section to extend their congratulations to Vir Das. Hrithik Roshan praised, “Congrats! Well deserved,” while Taapsee Pannu added, “So heartening Mr. Das! Take a bow!” Richa Chadha exclaimed, “Amazing (red heart emoji) proud moment (fire emoji) congratulations Vir,” with Ayushmann Khurrana echoing, “Well deserved (red heart emoji).”
