According to a Media report, the Delhi Police suspect that this youth initially posted the deepfake video on his social media account and subsequently shared it across various platforms. A senior officer revealed that the individual was issued a notice to participate in the investigation as the video allegedly originated from his social media account. The investigation is being carried out under sections 465 and 469 of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections 66C and 66E of the Information Technology Act, pertaining to forgery and causing harm to reputation.
Despite the filing of an FIR on November 10 at the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of the Delhi Police’s Special Cell, no arrests have been made as of Tuesday. The police clarified that the youth claimed to have downloaded the video from an Instagram account, leading to ongoing interrogation. The individual from Bihar was asked to appear before the IFSO Unit, bringing his mobile phone, which was allegedly used for uploading the controversial video.
In the pursuit of further details, the IFSO Unit has reached out to Meta to obtain the URL and additional information necessary to identify the person responsible for the video.
