Madras High Court Rejects Request for 4 AM Screening of Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Leo’

As the highly anticipated Thalapathy Vijay starrer ‘Leo’ gears up for its release on October 19, an attempt to secure early morning screenings in Tamil Nadu has hit a roadblock. K Ramachandran, the Authorized Signatory of Seven Screen Studios, had petitioned the Madras High Court, seeking permission for the film to have 4 AM shows in the state. However, recent reports reveal that the High Court has declined this request.

The makers of ‘Leo’ had originally applied for 4 AM screenings for the first six days following the film’s release, increasing the daily show count to six. Nevertheless, the Tamil Nadu government granted them only five shows, with the earliest show commencing at 9 AM.

The honorable Madras High Court Judge Anita Sumanth, who presided over the case on Tuesday, October 17, has left the decision regarding the earliest showtime in the hands of the Tamil Nadu government. They have the option to reconsider and potentially move the first show to 7 AM. Representatives from the film’s production team and the Tamil Nadu Theatre Association are expected to appear in court later on Tuesday for further discussions.

In a previous report by The Indian Express, K Ramachandran’s petition was quoted, stating, “I submit that adhering to the regulation, I had submitted a representation letter dated 15 Sep 2023 to the Principal Secretary to Government, the Hon’ble Minister, and the Hon’ble Chief Minister requesting permission to screen 6 shows on the opening day and 5 shows from 20th October to 24th October 2023.

On the opening day, i.e., 19.10.2023, the 1st show has been planned to be screened at 4 AM to cater to the insatiable desire of the hardcore fans and from 7 AM onwards from 20.10.2023.”

The petition further read, “To cater for the unusual demand of viewership, the states of Kerala and Karnataka have permitted an early morning timing extension from 4 o’clock. In line with the neighboring states, I had requested the same special show timings from 4 AM for the theaters in Tamil Nadu to manage overcrowding and fanfare on 19.10.2023.”

‘Leo’ is an action-packed thriller featuring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role. The film also stars Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, Gautham Menon, Mysskin, Priya Anand, and Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in pivotal roles.

The script was co-written by Rathna Kumar and Deeraj Vaidy alongside director Lokesh Kanagaraj. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music for the film, with Manoj Paramahamsa and Philomin Raj handling cinematography and editing, respectively.
