Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated directorial venture, Lal Salaam, hit the theaters on Friday, featuring Vishnu Vishal, Vikranth, and a special appearance by superstar Rajinikanth. Despite the high expectations surrounding this Tamil sports drama, it had a slow start at the box office on its opening day, earning approximately Rs. 4.3 crore, according to early estimates.
The significance of this story lies in Lal Salaam being Aishwaryaa’s fourth directorial project, marking her comeback to filmmaking after a seven-year hiatus. While the film received positive reviews for its social commentary on religious harmony, its box office success now hinges on maintaining momentum over the weekend.
The star-studded cast and crew of Lal Salaam include Vishnu Rangasamy as the screenwriter and cinematographer, with music by AR Rahman. Produced by Subaskara Allirajah of Lyca Productions, the film boasts a supporting cast featuring Jeevitha, Senthil, KS Ravikumar, and Thambi Ramaiah, along with a cameo by cricket legend Kapil Dev.
In comparison to other releases on the same day, Lal Salaam’s box office performance trails behind Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Ravi Teja’s Eagle, which earned an estimated Rs. 6.5 crore and Rs. 6 crore, respectively, surpassing Lal Salaam’s first-day collections. The film’s unique marketing strategy, positioning it with Rajinikanth’s involvement, adds an interesting layer to its commercial journey.
The next crucial phase for Lal Salaam will be to sustain audience interest and improve its box office numbers over the weekend.
