In an interview with Film Companion, Katrina emphasized the importance of being fearless in making choices within the film industry. She praised the success of ’12th Fail’ as an example for everyone, showcasing the potential of both high-octane action blockbusters and smaller, intimate films in the same year.
Expressing her views, Katrina stated, “I think you should be just fearless in your choices. Don’t calculate so much. And I think this year (2023) is probably one of the best years for me to give this example where we’ve seen high octane action commercial blockbusters and we’ve seen a small, intimate film, ’12th Fail,’ do so well. I think that’s all the example we need.”
She emphasized that if a film has an engaging story, it will inevitably find its audience. Katrina highlighted the roles of producers in calculating numbers and the responsibility of actors and directors in narrating compelling stories.
Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, ’12th Fail’ narrates the real-life story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and his IRS officer partner, Shraddha Joshi. The film gained widespread acclaim upon release, earning praise not only from the general audience but also from celebrities like Kamal Haasan and Sanjay Dutt, who commended Vikrant Massey’s performance and the film’s narrative.
Looking ahead, Katrina Kaif is set to grace the screen in Sriram Raghavan’s directorial ‘Merry Christmas’ alongside Vijay Sethupathi, scheduled for release on January 12 in cinemas. The success of ’12th Fail’ stands as a testament to the diverse storytelling possibilities within the Bollywood landscape.
