In the age of social media, every word and action are scrutinized, and this time, it’s Bollywood power couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh who found themselves in the spotlight. After their candid revelations on Karan Johar’s chat show, trolls descended upon them, ready to pounce. However, filmmaker Karan Johar, who hosted the show, has come to their defense, urging for a more positive outlook.
During a live session, Karan addressed the waves of negativity surrounding the couple’s comments and stated, ‘Do what you need to do because no one’s looking. Trolling gets you nowhere. You are landing nowhere.’ He emphasized the futility of engaging in online trolling and discouraged such behavior.
Karan Johar isn’t alone in supporting Deepika and Ranveer. Comedian Vir Das also took a stand against those targeting the Bollywood stars. In a witty post on his social media account, Vir Das humorously tackled the issue. He wrote, ‘Moment of silence for all the men who are upset that a Bollywood star way out of their league was casually dating for a while and wasn’t as committed as their imaginary girlfriend is to them.’ His comment shed light on the absurdity of trolls criticizing a relationship that had no bearing on their lives.
The controversy stemmed from Deepika Padukone’s revelations on Karan Johar’s show about the early days of her relationship with Ranveer Singh. She candidly stated, ‘I wanted to be single for a while because I had come from difficult relationships. I was going through a phase where I said ‘I just don’t want to be attached, don’t want to be committed’. And I had fun! And then he came along, so I didn’t commit until he proposed to me. There was no ‘commitment’ as such. Even if we were technically allowed to see other people, we would just keep coming back to each other.’
Deepika’s openness about her relationship journey is a reminder that love stories can take different forms and evolve at their own pace. Karan Johar and Vir Das have highlighted the importance of not letting negativity overshadow such personal stories and experiences.
