Tejas’ Box Office Struggles
Kangana Ranaut’s latest film, “Tejas,” has faced a disappointing run at the box office, leading several exhibitors across the country to make the tough decision to remove the movie from theatres due to its poor occupancy. Despite Kangana’s portrayal of an intense and powerful Air Force pilot, Tejas Gill, the film failed to take off and has collected just Rs 4.15 crore in its opening week. It is anticipated to finish its lifetime collection at under Rs 10 crore.
Exhibitors React to Tejas’ Underwhelming Performance
Exhibitors and theatre owners expressed their dismay over the film’s performance. One exhibitor, speaking anonymously, revealed that Tejas’ occupancy was subpar even on a Sunday, with as few as 10-12 people attending each show. More than 50% of shows have been discontinued since Monday. Although the exhibitor admitted that the film’s VFX may be lacking, it remains watchable. However, the audience has unequivocally rejected it. In contrast, Vikrant Massey’s “12th Fail” is performing better than Tejas, despite having fewer showings.
Theatre Owners Share Their Frustration
Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, described Tejas as an “unmitigated disaster.” He revealed that morning shows at his theatre were canceled due to zero ticket sales for the first time this year. Kiritbhai T Vaghasia, who operates The Friday Cinema multiplex in Surat, shared that not a single show of Tejas was played in his theatre due to zero bookings. Despite initially planning to play six shows on Friday, he reduced it to three shows on Saturday due to a lack of audience. Manoj Desai, owner of Mumbai’s Gaiety Galaxy, expressed sadness at Tejas’ disappointing collections. While he managed to get 100 viewers on Sunday, attendance was less than 100 for the remaining shows. Despite low footfalls, he has decided to continue screening Tejas on weekdays, offering reduced ticket rates to attract viewers.
Kangana Ranaut’s Response
Amid the film’s underwhelming performance, Kangana Ranaut lashed out at Punjabi singer Shubh for allegedly celebrating the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She called it a “shameful” act.
