Director Siddharth Anand Responds to Criticism from Pakistani Celebs over Fighter Trailer

Amidst criticism from Pakistani actors regarding the Fighter trailer, director Siddharth Anand has offered a response.

The Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone-starrer unfolds against the backdrop of the Indian Air Force’s strike on Pakistan following a terror attack. Pakistani celebrities, including Hania Aamir and Adnan Siddiqui, expressed disappointment with the portrayal of Pakistan in the trailer, leading to a reaction from the director.

Reacting to tweets discussing Hania Aamir’s perspective, Siddharth Anand responded with a thinking face emoji. In one tweet, the question was raised about the double standards concerning anti-India content in movies. Another tweet mentioned the 2018 Pakistani film “Parwaaz Hai Junoon” as being anti-Indian Air Force, with Siddharth Anand responding with an “Oh!!”

Hania Aamir, in response to the Fighter trailer, expressed her dismay on Instagram Stories, emphasizing the responsibility of artists in bridging gaps rather than creating divisions. Other Pakistani celebrities, including Adnan Siddiqui and Zara Noor Abbas, also criticized the trailer for perpetuating negative stereotypes.

Adnan Siddiqui lamented the portrayal of Pakistanis as villains in Bollywood, urging the industry to use art to promote love and peace. Zara Noor Abbas questioned the need to sell a story of hatred and emphasized the importance of promoting peace instead.

Fighter, featuring an ensemble cast including Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan, Anil Kapoor, and others, is directed by Siddharth Anand, known for his work in War and Pathaan. The film is scheduled for release in theaters on January 25, 2024.
